EMBROIDERY

Embroidered Botanical Work

Alannah’s embroidered botanical pieces are made using freehand machine embroidery on water-soluble fabric, allowing for delicate stitching that captures the unique character of natural forms. Her work ranges from pinned, boxed wall pieces—reminiscent of museum specimens—to hanging decorations and freestanding flowers with wire stems.

Inspired by the natural quirks found in plants—such as variegated leaves or the unexpected colours of a dahlia—each embroidered piece celebrates the diversity and imperfection of nature. Influenced by artist Meredith Woolnough, Alannah uses thread like a drawing tool, creating intricate studies of flora that bring a quiet, crafted presence into interior spaces.
